ABP renew their Platinum Partnership with HEY Children's University

Hull and East Yorkshire (HEY) Children's University is delighted to report that Associated British Ports (ABP) have renewed their Platinum Partnership for another year. ABP are Pioneer Partners of the charity, having supported us for a number of years and have been Platinum Partners for the past 2 years.  As Platinum Partners, ABP are one of our charities main sponsors and allow us to continue to deliver our work so that we can help some of societies most vulnerable children.

Our charity was unable to hold fundraising events in 2020 due to the pandemic and this meant that we took a huge hit financially. The effects of the pandemic also mean that many more children are living in poverty and sadly, many more children are going into the Care system. The support of ABP means that we can continue our work and reach the children that are going to need our help.

About ABP Humber

The Port of Hull is the UK’s leading softwood timber port and the focus of the offshore wind sector on the Humber, the UK’s energy estuary. The port hosts regular ferry and container services connecting mainland Europe, and beyond. Multi-million pound investment in the Hull Container Terminal has cemented Hull’s position as a leading gateway for trade, offering reliable and resilient supply chain solutions. Adjacent to the port, the Humber International Enterprise Park is one of the largest development sites in the UK.

The Port of Hull handles approximately 10 million tonnes of cargo, amounting to around £12 billion in trade each year. As well as containers, ferry travel and Ro-Ro, Hull specialises in handling forest products and a range of bulk commodities. Hull is also home to the UK's first fully-enclosed cargo-handling facility for weather-sensitive cargoes such as steel and bagged products.

A key gateway on the UK’s busiest trading estuary, the Humber, the Port of Hull supports 12,000 jobs and contributes over £800 million to the economy every year. ABP’s continued investment in infrastructure, equipment and systems, ensures the Port of Hull is capable of delivering the supply chain solutions our customers need.

The Port of Hull has a team dedicated to safely delivering the highest standards of customer service, ready to work in partnership to help our customers’ businesses to grow.

Partnership with HEY Children's University

HEY Children's University is passionate about giving children the opportunity to see different industries and places of work. We have worked in collaboration with the ABP team to put together an ABP experience to follow on from our visits to P&O ferries. The children are taken on a coach tour of the ports whilst the knowledgeable staff from ABP tell the children interesting facts about the different areas of the ports.

For the past 6 years, HEY CU and ABP have worked together to deliver the annual Humber Cruises for local children. Many children in Hull have never seen the Humber, let alone sailed on it, so to cruise along the river really is a once in a lifetime opportunity. 60 Children a day board the Yorkshire Belle vessel and embark on a 3 hour cruise along the Humber, hearing a running commentary all about the businesses along the Humber and how important the estuary is to the rest of the country.

As Platinum Partners, ABP will also be funding a Kip on a Ship Experience for a class of local children (once restrictions have been eased and our experiences are resuming).
