7th March marked World Book Day, an annual celebration of authors, illustrators, books and the joy of reading! It is the perfect opportunity to engage children in reading for pleasure.
Research shows that 9% of children today don't have a book of their own and that figure rises to 13% in disadvantaged areas. Hull & East Yorkshire Children's University are passionate about ensuring that all children have the same opportunities as other children across the UK and that includes the opportunity to develop a love of reading.
When Bronze Partners, Becker UK approached us with over 100 books they wanted to donate we got to work planning the perfect SURPRISE Book Drop to 19 schools. The schools were gifted with a bundle of books each and they could decide how best to use them, either adding them to their libraries or giving them as prizes to pupils to keep and take home. There was lots of happy faces around upon opening their parcels!
