The first month into the academic year from the HEYCU School and Volunteer Coordinator

23 experiences, including six London or overnight experiences, have been had by 14 different primary schools so far – a lot of coach and train booking, itinerary making (and amending), activity planning, preorders, checking dietary requirements and volunteer organising! I was lucky to join an experience as a volunteer on one of our business visits, it’s wonderful hearing the fascinating questions children ask and them saying things like ‘this is the best day ever’. It really reinforces why we do what we do.

As the volunteer coordinator I began the month at the University of Hull’s Freshers Fair, this led to 9 new sign ups of volunteers – a fantastic start! And I ended the month at the Time2Volunteer Awards. One of our dedicated volunteers got shortlisted for an award so we went along to show our support, he sadly didn’t win but the room was jam-packed with such a wonderful group of passionate and caring individuals who support a range of charities across the region, it was lovely to see.

In between these two events I have trained a whopping 27 new volunteers over eight sessions - hurray, the more volunteers we have, the more children we can help!

It's a busy life but we love it, and we are so happy that people want to join us on our mission to support the aspirations of local children.

Get in touch if you would like to join our team of volunteers and make experiences for our children of Hull & East Yorkshire possible. Click the ‘Get involved’ tab at the top of the page and sign up as a volunteer today!
