Bempton
There was excitement amongst the group on the first experience of the holidays. The children visited Bempton Cliffs and for some it was their first time seeing the sea. The children watched in awe as they spotted Puffins and other sea birds swooping past them and diving into the water. One young person said that their favourite part was ‘seeing the Puffins – it was so unexpected!’ The children took time on their woodland walk to be present in nature and listened to their surrounds – they heard different birds, the grass swaying in the wind and even some crickets. The children later made some fantastic bird feeders to encourage birds into their garden at home. They finished the day with new knowledge, new friends and a calm and present attitude.
Maker Space
In this session at Maker Space, the children made their own huge board game. The children carefully designed their board, snakes and ladders. They used heat transfer to design their own bags to keep the game pieces in. The children had time to practise playing their new games with friends and took it in turns to move the snakes and ladders around to have endless fun with each game.
The Deep
The children enjoyed a VIP experience at The Deep. They experienced a behind the scenes tour of the aquarium, fed the lagoon animals, made and fed fruit kebabs for the river turtles and met the staff that work at The Deep to ask them questions about the animals that they care for. One young person was eager to find out more about working with the penguins and told the team he wanted to work with them in the future.
Pinewood Trust
We had a fun-filled day at Pinewood Trust. The children were given time to be present in nature, challenge themselves safely, work in a team, climb, explore and craft! Learning through play is so important, and the children did exactly that! One of the children said, ‘This is the best day ever!’
Bridlington Animal Park
The children explored Bridlington Animal Park, fed the animals and learnt lots of new facts. They met the reptiles and watched a fantastic flying display. The children particularly enjoyed the VIP experience – feeding the meerkats! The meerkats were very mischievous, and the children spent the whole-time giggling.
Pottery and tie-dye class
The week ended with a super pottery and tie-dye experience. The children worked together to mix colours and create patterns on a huge cloth. We now have some beautiful new picnic blankets! They then created their own personalised bags and it was fantastic to see how unique each tie-dye bag was. Later on in the day, the children have the chance to use a pottery wheel! Using the wheel required some perseverance and attention to detail, but each child demonstrated how resilient they are and were all very happy with their end products.
