Step into Summer with Step Up Move On

Our Step Up Move On Summer programme of experiences started with a trip to the Living Seas Centre at Flamborough.  We certainly saw a few budding marine biologists when we took a group of our young people to the coast for some rock pooling fun! We learned so much about the marine life and found a variety of different crabs, fish, anemones, lobster and even a conga eel! We were also treated to soap making and seaweed pressing workshops. It was the (direct quote) "best day ever" and our teenagers didn’t look at their phones once!

Sports Day was next and a visit to the MKM Stadium with Run With It Education. We had a VIP tour behind the scenes and were incredibly lucky to be able to watch the Fiorentina players practising ready for their friendly match against Hull City! To end our trip we were treated to fun games and quizzes in the sunshine!

What an incredible day in the sunshine when we went Back to Nature at the Country Park in Hessle.  The group tried their hand at fire making, den building, team games and nature walks.
We were so proud of our young people who showed amazing resilience, perseverance and determination in all of the activities and were a credit to not only us, but to themselves!

It was a windy day at Welton Waters, but it did not stop the fun and games!  Kayaks and paddle boards were the favourite activities and it looked like we had a team ready and training for the 2028 Olympics!

The summer events for Step Up Move On came to an end with a wonderful experience at Goxhill Meadows. The new Valais Black-nose sheep were a real favourite!  The anxieties at the start of the day ended with smiles and cries of “Can we come back?”
The young people came away with more confidence and feeling proud of their achievements as well as making new friends. The co-regulation when caring for the animals and the calmness and the kindness needed supports the many skills we nurture with our CLA experiences. We love learning about the animals and find that children who rarely speak, ask questions and become so animated. It is invaluable.

What an amazing group of human beings we have the pleasure of working with!
Thank you to all of our funders, sponsors, providers and volunteers for helping us create smiles!
