Hull & East Yorkshire Children’s University win GOLD at the Charity Film Awards
Smiley Movement is a platform for change with a vision: to inspire positive change in society by highlighting the people – and organisations – doing good in our world. The Charity Film Awards is one of the largest charity events of the year.
Last week Rose James, CEO and Jo Coates, University Liaison Officer attended the Smiley Charity Film Awards 2024, in London’s Leicester Square as HEY Children’s University’s film was shortlisted in one of the categories.
Hundreds of inspirational people from the third sector joined a host of celebrities, not to mention over 250k people watching the livestream, to celebrate all things charity and the films that highlight the incredible work that so many charities are doing.
Hull & East Yorkshire Children’s University had been shortlisted as a finalist thanks to the votes of supporters in the lead up to the event itself, but on the night the decision came down to the panel of expert judges. The film ‘An introduction to Hull & East Yorkshire Children’s University’ was announced as WINNER in the £450k-£1million turnover category which had 15 charities from across the country shortlisted.
This year’s awards saw record numbers of votes and people attending the event so to be shortlisted was a huge success for the charity, but to win the award is just amazing – the first Hull charity to do so.
We worked with Influence Media to put the film together to highlight our work inspiring local children growing up in disadvantaged areas of our region who may not have the same opportunities as others. The film shows how our Learning Experiences light up every path that a child could take and helps them create dreams for the future.
HEY Children’s University’s CEO, Rose James said; ‘We are delighted that our film resonated with the judges and are incredibly proud that it has now been viewed by so many people across the country. Being shortlisted was so exciting but winning this award is the cherry on the cake and a fantastic achievement for the entire team.’
