LEL Blog: HEYCU in the Holidays (Part 1)

This summer, thanks to Healthy Holidays, we have been able to continue taking 15 local children on six trips in and around Hull.

As always, we began with another successful outing to Goxhill Meadows, a staple of our Holiday programme. It's a great way to start the summer as it helps the children understand the importance of keeping calm when undertaking new experiences and gives us all a chance to get to know each other. The unique animal-handling experience is always a hit with the children and the BBQ for lunch just tops the day off nicely!

The following week we headed up to Spurn Point with the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust. Here the children were taught the importance of looking after our beaches and the impact that litter has on our environment. After lunch, we went fossil hunting and were very lucky to witness a seal pop his head up and say 'hello'! Everybody got to bring home a fossil from the beach as a memento of the great day we’d had.

Week three saw us head to Hull City Centre. Our partners, KCOM, were on hand to open up the Learning Zone for a few games and to leave our bags before we embarked on the Fish Trail in the morning and a stop-off at Hull's fantastic museum quarter in the afternoon. We were also treated to a delicious dinner from Falafia with many of the children never trying the food which was on offer before. This went down extremely well and we will definitely be back for more!

It’s safe to say we’ve had a busy and exciting summer holiday so far, with 3 more weeks yet to come! Stay tuned for more adventures!
