Half way through the summer fun!

Back to Nature

The children spent a fantastic two days with the Back to Nature team. The children were encouraged to enjoy nature, be inquisitive and practise mindfulness throughout their time with the team. They enjoyed friendship and team building activities, helping one another, building dens, feeding the birds, long walks in nature and looking after and learning about the surrounding area.

Forest School

The children enjoyed the first Forest School visit of the summer. They spent time getting to know each other, learning about how to stay safe in the forest and the fun that they can find in nature. They enjoyed fire making, nature crafting, making clay wild houses and sun printing. The children that had visited before showed such patience when teaching the new visitors how to safely light fires. It took a lot of perseverance and resilience, but they were all able to achieve. For one young person, it was their first time on an HEY CU experience and they said, ‘My favourite part was making new friends and memories.’

Goxhill Meadows

A group of children spent an incredible two days at Goxhill Meadows. Goxhill Meadows provides the children with time to be present in nature with activities that support children in a range of ways, including building relationships, improving social and emotional skills, increasing self-esteem and independence. For some children, they had never been this close to animals, and despite being very nervous, by the end of day two they were walking and grooming goats! A great achievement – they learnt that they can achieve things that once seemed impossible! The children spent the two days learning about themselves and being aware of their emotions, whilst building their confidence and resilience to try new things. It was amazing to watch the children encourage each other to challenge themselves and guiding each other through these challenges. One young person finished the day by saying, ‘I was brave to try something new’.

Cook Stars

The children enjoyed a cooking session with Sarah at Cook Stars. Some children that attended were regular bakers, whilst others had never tried baking before. Despite the range of abilities, each child took their time to carefully follow Sarah’s lead and created delicious calzone pizzas and brownies.
