The CLA primary programme started the week with a VIP visit to The Deep. The young people participated in an exclusive, curated experience at The Deep. They went behind the scenes, spoke to experienced aquarists and fed a range of fish. The young people learnt about the ecosystems and marine life. This experience gave the children the opportunity to be curious, ask questions and listen to detailed responses. The day was filled with ‘I wonder…’ moments and the children were eager to learn as much information as they could. One child had a lightbulb moment – they realised this could be a job for them in the future!
The following day, we visited Maker Space – a workshop with state-of-the-art manual, digital and electronic equipment, where a group of young people enjoyed working together and creating. With a blend of science and art, they constructed their own flip books, mastering the mechanics of animation. The creativity did not stop there - they experimented with vibrant paints, crafting an immersive underwater world for their own underwater creature. Experiences like this are crucial for the young people on the programme, it encourages them to talk and work alongside others and allows their creativity to flourish.
We ended the week with a workshop with Art Link and Brick Box. The children experimented with different shapes and techniques to create their own collages. They then spent the afternoon with Brick Box, where they used their planning skills to create their own world for a character from a mystery box. The workshop was not just building – it included problem-solving, critical thinking, creative storytelling and sharing ideas with others. It was fantastic to see the collaboration amongst the group and how the children praised each other’s ideas. They all left the day feeling proud of what they had achieved.
