A half term full of discovery, skills and inspiration

First Up - A Student for a Day

Our Year 11's headed to the University of Hull to experience university life first-hand. They explored student accommodation, chose their bedrooms, created their own shared-flat rules and got busy in the kitchen!

With Debbie Wilson from Beau Learning, they prepared some delicious budget-friendly meals, including lasagne, cottage pie and flapjack, while picking up some brilliant tips on batch cooking.

There was also time to explore GCSE revision techniques and ways to relax during exam preparation. A very special visit from our four-legged friends at Underdog International provided the perfect opportunity to talk about the comfort and wellbeing benefits of pets.

A huge thank you to Jo Scott and the volunteers, and of course to Lola, Jinx and Benji (and their humans!) for bringing so much joy to the day.

Day 2 - Be an Entrepreneur!

Our Year 8's became budding entrepreneurs for the day at the University of Hull, where Zoe Garrod and the Outreach Team delivered a fantastic introduction to marketing and business development.

They worked together to develop business ideas and create and decorate their own cupcakes in a Dragon's Den-style challenge, before presenting their ideas to the group. The confidence on display was fantastic, with university staff hugely impressed by their presentations.

One young person summed up the day perfectly, saying: “The best part about today was working as an amazing team with people I had never met before.”

Another discovered a potential future career they hadn't previously considered - teaching! A real lightbulb moment and a wonderful reminder of the value of trying something new.

Last but not least - Airport Adventures and Careers!

Our Year 9's took to the skies (well, almost!) with a Step Up Move On careers experience at Humberside Airport.

Thanks to Kate Hill and the Run With It team, the group received a VIP welcome, complete with their very own 'access all areas' lanyards.

For some, it was their very first visit to an airport, making the experience even more exciting. The young people took on the challenge of planning a trip from start to finish, calculating parking costs, checking flight times, creating passports and travel documents, packing suitcases and even checking in to receive their own boarding passes.

Along the way, they discovered the wide range of career opportunities available within the aviation industry while developing valuable teamwork and communication skills.

One young person discovered a real interest in becoming a travel agent, while by the end of the day we had a room full of ambitious future pilots, air traffic controllers, ground crew, security staff and cabin crew.
