Flamborough
The children had a fantastic day with the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust Living Seas Centre at Flamborough. They started the day by making seaweed soap and experimenting with different colours, essential oils and natural resources to make their own personalised soaps. The children then conducted a beach clean and learnt about the importance of protecting the beaches. The afternoon was spent exploring the rock pools on the beach, the children investigated the beach and rockpools whilst learning all about the different seaweed and creatures.
Run With It at the MKM Stadium
A group of children had a VIP experience led by Run With It Education at MKM Stadium. They had a behind the scenes tour, an interactive quiz and enjoyed playing football together.
Maker Space
In this session at Maker Space, the children made their own 3D maze puzzles. They had to carefully plan and design their maze on the computer and watched as their designs came to life on the laser cutter. They then each carefully assembled their maze, this required a lot of concentration and attention to detail. The fun did not stop there – the children also made a musical monster marble tree. They spray painted, decorated and assembled their marble trees before enjoying the relaxing sound it made.
Far Ings and Humber Llamas
The children spent the morning with the team at Far Ings Nature Reserve, where they learnt about the different wildlife in the area and learnt how to identify the creatures that live in the reserve. They put their knowledge to the test whilst carefully pond dipping in the local area – they were able to identify lots of different creatures. Before leaving the reserve, the children used natural resources to create clay decorations for the trees. The children used their imaginations and thought hard about the personalities of the trees, they then used clay to design something that brings the tree’s personality to life. The children finished the day with a trip to Humber Llamas – they learnt about the llamas, fed them and walked them. For some children, it was their first time seeing llamas, but by the end of the session, each child had conquered any fears and each walked a llama. A great achievement!
Forest School
The final experience of the summer was a visit to Forest School. The children took part in a range of child led activities, including imaginative play, making bramble cake, fishing rods, creating mud stew and building dens. Forest School allows children to challenge themselves in a way that they feel comfortable and it gives them the freedom to build relationships and enjoy nature.
